  • If two people apply for the same character, the first to post their application will be assessed. The second application will only be considered if the first is declined.

  • However, we do allow UP TO TWO versions of each character in game. The second applicant would therefore be permitted to apply for an AU version of that character if they so choose.

  • Agents of D.E.S.T.I.N.Y. or antagonist applications will open on November 4. These characters are either brainwashed (quick resolution) or coerced (slow-play resolution, long-term espionage) to help usher in the apocalypse. More information here!

Background: Brief summary as possible, Wiki links preferred. If you wish to write your own, please us bullet points and be concise, 250-800 words. Please avoid over-describing the world or any jargon, focus more on key points in personality development (see above), changes wrought by CRAU and important CRAU relationships, and events that are likely to be regarded as offensive or sensitive material.
Powers/Abilities: Bullet list preferred. 1-400 words. Include non-human weaknesses/limits and superlative skills. Estimate numerical limits (weight, distance, speed, etc.). At the mods' discretion, destructive capacity may be scaled down based on a maximum lift of 5 tons (~2 full-sized cars).
Starting Equipment: Name your daemon, describe its form (max 50 words), and list any other items the character will be arriving with. Note highly destructive items will be controlled by metaplot. If you have critters that have powers or special abilities, please describe them briefly.

In-Universe:

Exit Strategy: Maximum of 200 words. If your character is an agent of D.E.S.T.I.N.Y./antagonist, describe what D.E.S.T.I.N.Y. agents did to them (e.g., torture/magical brainwashing, or family held hostage/apocalypse postponed).

For non-antagonists, tell us how the D.E.S.T.I.N.Y. apocalypse and the enemy appeared in their world, then describe the technology or magic the character used to escape their world. Note any characters they are arriving with (i.e., 'group app') including usernames. This may be used for future plot, but don't worry too much about perfect consistency with your group mate/castmates/etc.— adjustments can be made later. We just want you to be thinking about it. All characters start on the beach.

ALLOWED

✔ CRAU, or characters who have experienced life in other games/museboxes. 'Partial CRAU' is not allowed, but if you apply in fresh, you will be able to obtain memories of CRAU during special events.

✔ Canon characters who must personally appear and preferably have a speaking role in the material of the canon point (specific episodes, books, films, etc.). You cannot app a minor/supporting character and headcanon the substance of their personality, or extrapolate a character's off-screen activities from material that only their canonmates were seen in

Multiple iterations of the same canon character are allowed. The two versions must be at least one with CRAU. The current maximum is 2 of each character. This may be raised by 1 if the character exists in another form of media and is determined to be sufficiently different.

Players should consider introducing themselves to players of close canon CR before they app. However, this is only required in the case of a group application (castmates arriving together from the same version and canon point of their world), or if you are apping the second version of an existing canon character. Shane grew up the son of a disgraced viking near the end of the Viking era. Following the death of his father, Shane sought out more of his family. He found a brother in a nearby tribe, with a father dying like his had done before. So the pair sought a witch out, and upon finding her the witch revealed to them the true nature of their being. They were the sons of a faerie queen, and it was her magic that had killed their fathers. Losing his father, Eran turned his attentions back to the Door, and Shane aided him in conquering the nearby land and establishing a post. The victory was long fought for, but not so easily won. Instead, a truce was reached with the local vampires. They would leave Eran and his kind alone, but the Door remained theirs. Eran agreed to this uneasy truce and married his witch while Shane sought to start his own life. Before he could, a vampire attacked him while alone one night. Only one halfling was needed by the vampires. Knowing the way to permanently kill a halfling, the vampire ripped out Shane's heart, leaving him with a scar he'd bear through every life.

The only reason Shane survived was through the aid of another halfling. Though this halfling was not half fae and half human, but half fae and half demon. Merlin, born to be an agent of chaos but instead an observer of the world until one day Arthur lived again. Merlin saved Shane through his own magic, and through Shane's many lives he raised the boy as his own son. Shane learned to stay far from Eran, or any loved ones, from that day forward. Instead he took up Merlin's path, becoming an observer more inclined to protect neutrality than fight for any side.

An event Shane meant to observe was the choosing of the new vampire princes among two sister vampire covens. While observing the one in Italy, Shane noticed a boy leaving the castle where no others were allowed to leave while the choosing occurred. He followed Rafa nightly to a club where he indulged in vices Shane knew the vampire king wouldn't approve of. Despite his better judgment, Shane met Rafa under the name of Alex in that life. The two quietly fell in love in dark corners. Shane promised to one day take Rafa away from this world, but that day never came. Rafa's father had Shane brought before him. He gave him his life but only if he left and never returned. Otherwise, he would force Rafa to be the one to kill him himself. Not so careful with his own life, Shane could never do that to Rafa. So he left to travel once again, observing the world and other creatures far removed from the war of vampires and fae.

Centuries later, Shane returned to his old home with the Door opening again and reunited with Eran and Rafa once again. He confessed to who he was, and Rafa still wanted him as he had then. The two had only just begun their lives when the Door opened fully and hell broke loose. During the resulting war, Eran and Jocelyn managed to close the door again, but Shane was captured and another halfling's heart was torn out, his sister in spirit Atropa.

In fae, Shane managed to escape the dark queen Belladonna, but only just barely. Believing him a pacifist, few expected him to take up arms again. Maybe he wouldn't have if he hadn't found love in Rafa again, but his goal became entirely about saving the still beating heart of Atropa and returning to Earth. Fearing that dying in fae would be a permanent death, and not wanting to become fae himself, every fifty years or so in fae Shane had his mother, the light queen Orlaith, remake his body again. A painful process that mentally wrecked Shane through his time in fae, which was nearly double the time there as it was on Earth.

Yet finally the Door cracked once again. Seeing his chance, Shane managed to steal the heart of Atropa and channel the power still within it to crack the Door enough for him to escape ahead of Belladonna's forces. He destroyed Atropa's heart in the human world, giving Atropa the chance to be reborn on Earth as all halflings are. He reunited with Rafa again, taking less of a neutral stance in the war finally. Though always seeking the most peaceful options, Shane aided his husband in finding resolution between the faeries and vampires. And when Atropa and Nikolai found a way to make halflings into hybrid vampires, he easily took the opportunity to never die again and put Rafa through even a moment without him again.

POWERS:
Vampire - Shane is more like 75% faerie and 25% vampire due to the way vampires in this world were made ( through faerie and demon magic ). He still needs to breath, eat, and sleep, just in less quantities. He does not have any sensitivity to the sun, however, due to his own Faerie nature, though other vampire weaknesses ( holy objects, fire, stakes, invitation, and garlic ) affect him to lesser degrees than a normal vampire. What he does have due to being a vampire, he has in reduction:
- Enhanced Senses : sight, hearing, and scent greater than a normal humans but less than a vampire's
- Immortality : He can't die, but he can get sick. He's not quite as durable as vampires, but he will heal. He also has the ability to have children, but cannot make other vampires.
- Strength + Speed : He can go faster than a normal human, but only just. He can lift a car, but only one car really.
- Blood : His doesn't make people obey, it drives them to madness and insanity and can make a man die wanting it. He's very wary of this, as it's a combination of his fae and vampiric nature. In reverse, he tends to struggle with bloodlust when he does feed on others.

Faerie - He's a light faerie, meaning his magic is light/life related. He can do the following:
Healing : His magic can heal any kind of wound, but it cannot regenerate lost limbs, only close the wound safely. He can cure a common cold, anything more he can only ease symptoms one day at a time.
Growing Plants : The most he can do is urge plants to grow more quickly. He definitely can't sprout a forest over night, but he urge can a bush to sprout flowers or grow at an accelerated rate.
Light Manipulation : He can use light to just light the way, or he can use it to create barriers and weapons as long as he focuses hard enough.

In-Universe:

EXIT STRATEGY: D.E.S.T.I.N.Y. came when the demons broke through their Door, something that had never happened before. Yet they came pouring into Earth, wrecking and destroying the world beyond any saving. They foretold of the coming apocalypse that was destroying their world and come for Earth next. So Shane, with the aid of the coven of witches in Prague, attempted to open a portal to any other world that would protect them. He watched his family and loved ones go through first. Yet when he stepped through, he found himself alone.
MORALITY: Despite his "neutral" stance in life, Shane tends to lean more towards doing good than others. He loathes having to twist his morality to any shade of grey, and he'll always try to find a way to avoid doing so. Sometimes this means letting others do things and keeping his mouth shut. He tries to weigh the good against the bad for the best possible neutral outcome, but it's not always so black and white. He's not easy to bend, but if reason and logic dictate it he will do what he must.
WAR ATTITUDES: Ever the pacifist, Shane really tries to keep his nose out of war dealings. However, his family has put him more in the middle of wars than he ever wanted to be. He did his best to remain apart from it all, but he just ended up dragged into it again. So he tries to support where he can and stay out of the actual fighting. He also does his best to try to advise for more peaceful routes, though he knows it rarely wins out. War is war, he's seen plenty of it to know the truth of it.
INTIMATE RELATIONSHIPS: Shane loves people. He loves to learn their stories, learn about their cultures, and just learn all about them. The problem is, he tends to have problems opening himself up to others. He's lived his life as an outsider to try to protect people he loves. He's not opposed to it, he has a family and growing circle of others after all, it just takes him more time to learn to open himself better to others. As for romantic inclinations, he's very devoted to his husband, Rafa. He's never slept with another person since he and Rafa reunited, and has no intentions to do so despite everyone else in his family tending to be more polyamorous. He doesn't judge the others for their choice, though, his monogamy is his personal choice.
COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTIONS: Despite not being his world, Shane can't help his need to assist others. So he'll likely lend it where healing is concerned ( this place needs no help with growing things after all ), but he has the ability to fight and hunt as needed as well.
