ALLOWED CHARACTERS
Notes:Please do not link from your journal, make sure all the content is pasted into the comment(s).
- We now operate ROLLING APPLICATIONS that are always open. You can submit 1 character anytime in a month!
- Our application process has become simplified due to staffing changes, please take note!
- As apps are always open, reserves are NO LONGER REQUIRED. Please simply complete the application below and post when you are ready.
- If two people apply for the same character, the first to post their application will be assessed. The second application will only be considered if the first is declined.
- However, we do allow UP TO TWO versions of each character in game. The second applicant would therefore be permitted to apply for an AU version of that character if they so choose.
- Agents of D.E.S.T.I.N.Y. or antagonist applications will open on November 4. These characters are either brainwashed (quick resolution) or coerced (slow-play resolution, long-term espionage) to help usher in the apocalypse. More information here!
OOC:
Player Name: Provide your handle
Age: Indicate you are 18+; players less than 18 years-of-age are not permitted
Contact: One or more of Plurk, PM, or Discord are needed
IC:
Character Name: Mrs. Handsome
Canon: Indicate which version if there are multiple (e.g., book to movie)
CANON POINT: Briefly describe in a sentence.
CRAU: Yes/No, please link the game/musebox the character is from
Age: Note that characters below 16 years of age should be apped with caution, as self-sufficiency/autonomy are extremely important. Heavy interdependency and neglect risks should be OOCly opt-in.
AGENT OF DESTINY: Yes/No, "Brainwashed" or "Coerced." Brainwash agents will be captured in-game and start to remember themselves within 1-2 months of play; coerced agents are knowingly helping the other side but under duress. Antagonists cannot begin gameplay until November 4, 2017, but you may feel free to apply and plot before then!
Background: Brief summary as possible, Wiki links preferred. If you wish to write your own, please us bullet points and be concise, 250-800 words. Please avoid over-describing the world or any jargon, focus more on key points in personality development (see above), changes wrought by CRAU and important CRAU relationships, and events that are likely to be regarded as offensive or sensitive material.
Powers/Abilities: Bullet list preferred. 1-400 words. Include non-human weaknesses/limits and superlative skills. Estimate numerical limits (weight, distance, speed, etc.). At the mods' discretion, destructive capacity may be scaled down based on a maximum lift of 5 tons (~2 full-sized cars).
Starting Equipment: Name your daemon, describe its form (max 50 words), and list any other items the character will be arriving with. Note highly destructive items will be controlled by metaplot. If you have critters that have powers or special abilities, please describe them briefly.
Samples: 1 required, may be from any meme, game, or setting; however, it should have been written within the last year. They should also be written from your preferred canon point.
In-Universe:
Exit Strategy: Maximum of 200 words. If your character is an agent of D.E.S.T.I.N.Y./antagonist, describe what D.E.S.T.I.N.Y. agents did to them (e.g., torture/magical brainwashing, or family held hostage/apocalypse postponed).
For non-antagonists, tell us how the D.E.S.T.I.N.Y. apocalypse and the enemy appeared in their world, then describe the technology or magic the character used to escape their world. Note any characters they are arriving with (i.e., 'group app') including usernames. This may be used for future plot, but don't worry too much about perfect consistency with your group mate/castmates/etc.— adjustments can be made later. We just want you to be thinking about it. All characters start on the beach.
Applications
Who's Allowed?
✔ CRAU, or characters who have experienced life in other games/museboxes. 'Partial CRAU' is not allowed, but if you apply in fresh, you will be able to obtain memories of CRAU during special events.
✔ Original characters
✔ Canon characters who must personally appear and preferably have a speaking role in the material of the canon point (specific episodes, books, films, etc.). You cannot app a minor/supporting character and headcanon the substance of their personality, or extrapolate a character's off-screen activities from material that only their canonmates were seen in
✔ Child characters (see Age warning in the Application section; note that self-sufficiency is important and other characters and players will not be forced to face consequences for failing to take on a dependent without careful OOC plotting)
✔ Multiple iterations of the same canon character are allowed. The two versions must be at least one with CRAU. The current maximum is 2 of each character. This may be raised by 1 if the character exists in another form of media and is determined to be sufficiently different.
✔ Non-human characters (greatest height in all directions is 30 feet; weird genitalia is fine as long as no one has to deal with it if they don't want to)
✔ Agents of D.E.S.T.I.N.Y., allowed as of November 4
✘
✘ Characters who must kill sentient beings (compulsion, physical appetites/dependence, etc.); there are limited NPCs and escalating ICC may render your character unplayable
Players should consider introducing themselves to players of close canon CR before they app. However, this is only required in the case of a group application (castmates arriving together from the same version and canon point of their world), or if you are apping the second version of an existing canon character. The purpose of this is not to mandate approval, but to initiate and encourage intra-cast communication.
Reserve - John Murphy | The 100 (CRAU)

PLAYER NAME: Jay
AGE: 28

INVITED BY: Chinatown
IC:
CHARACTER NAME: John Murphy
CANON: The 100
CANON POINT: End of S3
CRAU: Yes - Eudio
AGE: 18
BACKGROUND:
POWERS: Murphy can cook and survive torture, that's it, that's all he does.
STARTING EQUIPMENT: Clothes + a back pack he carried all around Earth and Eudio with some basically emergency supplies stuff in it - food, bandages, some knives, a lighter, antiseptic, other crap like that. Think Boy Scouts camping, that's John Murphy's emergency apocalypse back pack. Also, his daemon is named Bellamid and it looks like one of the native elk things.
SAMPLES: TDM Log sample + Network sample
In-Universe:
EXIT STRATEGY: Kavinsky used his dream thief powers to dream him and Murphy up a big elk thing (that looks miraculously like the ones in Xist), which they then hopped on (with Kavinsky's dog) and fly out of Eudio on, while Eudio crumbled all around them. The elk, upon landing in Xist, then became Murphy's daemon, which he's named Bellamid.
MORALITY: Morality is a complicated thing for Murphy, as he is portrayed as the morally grey character in a show that's all about sacrificing moral integrity for survival. Murphy's fairly unapologetic in being so, and has a strict priority of keeping himself alive over looking out for others or Doing The Right Thing. Up until Emori came into his life, there wasn't a single person he was willing to endanger his well being for in order to help out. Yet, as he's been growing in the last couple seasons, he's been forming opinions on what wrongs he's willing to live with, and what kind of survival he wants to have, for example, living is not enough, he wants to live but without isolation. He doesn't want to hurt people or cause people to die, but if it's him and the one person he loves over them, he will. It also helps that at some times, Doing The Right Thing also gives opportunities to help himself, and he's glad for that, typically, like stealing medicine to help the little girl in Arkadia.
WAR ATTITUDES: War gets people killed, and thus, Murphy generally wants nothing to do with it. However, if his happiness is on the other side of that war, and he'll get only misery from where he is, he'll enter into it, but with an entirely self serving goal. If a leader makes a stupid strategic choice, you can bet your ass Murphy's going to ignore it and do his own thing. He's very, very much been a victim of war, from being a tortured prisoner several times over, to watching his friends slaughtered, to being the expendable to sacrifice For The Cause, so he considers any kind of cause other than Staying Alive in a war to be completely absurd. So, he won't want to do the Save Everyone thing, but thankfully, Emori is still on Earth, as far as he knows, and if fighting this war means protecting her, then he's all in it. But he would send everyone else's worlds to hell if the bargain was offered to get her somewhere safe and protected.
INTIMATE RELATIONSHIPS: John Murphy has all of one (1) truly intimate relationship, emotionally and physically, and that would be Emori. She's really the only one he's honest with, the only one he trusts, the only one he's admitted to loving. If he were from an s4 canon point, Raven might also slide in as a close friend, but otherwise, nah. Joseph Kavinsky, while in Eudio, became Murphy's closest friend, as well as lover, and a person he trusts to a point, mostly because Kavinsky is about as self-serving as he is, if not more, and that's at least reliable. Murphy generally assumes pretty much everyone is horrible when put under enough strain, and will turn on him in a second if given the right push, so it's very difficult for him to trust and become close with people. That's not saying he can't be social - the boy never shuts the fuck up, so he has social ties with plenty of people, he just isn't particularly close with most. Also, because he's a rude piece of shit. As far as physicality goes, he can cuddle and get sexy however much is needed, as long as it's serving a purpose to him or helping him get what he wants. Which can be lots of things, or just saving his world/Emori.
COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTIONS: Murphy will be really conflicted with missions vs just stay in the city and be safe. He'll likely eventually get on board with it, especially with Emori's safety being on the line, and once he starts getting too restless just sitting in the city by himself. It helps that Murphy's very used to a life like this - sort of living for survival and fighting the effects of an apocalypse, so it's at least something that he knows. He doesn't like being in charge or in the spotlight, so it's not likely he'll try to get that deeply involved, but so long as it doesn't hurt his own survival, he's willing to lend a hand and go out of his way for this.
REVISIONS
Hello! Thank you very much for your application. Overall, things are looking good, but we would like to seek clarification on a couple of points. Specifically:
- Though you did a fantastic job highlighting some aspects of Eudio CR in the In-Game Questions, our application specifies that important CRAU or CRAU trajectory be summarized in the Background section.
Please drop us a few bullet points or paragraphs in a reply to this comment!no subject
» Murphy had been in Eudio for about 4 or 5 months, and had been fairly cagey for that time period, didn't expand out terribly far, and was sort of constantly braced for everything to fall apart (so, Xist kind of confirms his paranoia). The follow are the important relationships he fostered.
» Clarke Griffin + Bellamy Blake; while they were both canon mates, Murphy's relationship with them both was far from ideal even at his canon point, and especially at theirs, as they were earlier than him. However, they had become much closer in the time they spent together. Bellamy became a sort of go-to for Murphy's drunken angst fits, and while they were far from tender with each other, Bellamy had given him a bed to sleep off his drunkenness on and had him drink water and all those motherly things. They spoke a bit about more personally issues (mostly Murphy did, while Bellamy listened), and Bell had been the only one he opened up to about Emori. His relationship with Clarke, while still a bit tense, had become more friendly, her patching up his wounds when he arrived, and him making chicken soup for her while they were both sick, hanging out in Bellamy's apartment. He is actually sad to have left them behind, while in Xist, which is saying something for John Murphy.
» Joseph Kavinsky; was Murphy's closest friend and probably one of all of 3 lovers? The only one he'd been with more than once. Also, his first gay sex experience. There's a lot of similarities in Murphy and K's personalities and world view that he finds relief in being around, considering his entire life in canon was people calling him a criminal and nothing more, and scorning him for making choices for his survival, and being more morally grey than the rest, despite not actually being that horrible of a person at the core of it. He doesn't trust Kavinsky, per say, but he does believe him reliable in his lack of virture, and finds his company to be incredibly relaxing and easy to be around. He'd developed a gross, gross crush on this boy, but is aware that he's not the love of K's life, so he's not expecting it to go anywhere, really.
» Lex/The Lone Wanderer; Another lover, though they didn't do too much. They talked about guns and apocalypse survival a lot, and went to a hot spring, and had a similarity in survival attitudes that Murphy really valued. He did have more in the way of moral ambiguity than her, though, and that was something he hid from most people he knew in Eudio, outside of K, and canon mates (as they already knew the worst of him).
» Katniss Everdeen; they spoke briefly, once, over text, but it was a pretty heavy conversation, sharing the horrors of their worlds and their outlooks on them. Murphy finds her intelligent, resourceful and courageous. He's glad to have her here, if she apps.
» Aaron Minyard; They'd made out in a club at one point, and Aaron had his I'm Not Gay freak out, and Murphy was like okay, dude, whatever, and moved on with life. But, apparently, Aaron made Murphy the center of his gay dilemma and kept showing up for make out sessions, followed by running off in a fit. Murphy refused to do anything with him while he was drunk, or drunk enough that he couldn't pass a field sobriety test, but some shenanigans did occur. Currently, they're still really on the rocks, but Murphy's not going out of his way to mess with this kid, or get attached.
» Vex; A brief convo about how weird Vex's kink life is and how Eudio's probably going to fall to shit one day.
» Rafa; He's a vampire and Murphy made him mad by saying he doesn't want to be around him in case he gets hungry. They don't get along well. At all. But he's Kavinsky's mom, soooo. Awk.
That's really all the important ones. As far as his growth, he really didn't have the time to go through much, and he hadn't opened up about really any of the trauma he'd been through at home, at all, so really not much development from his canon point as of yet.
