They can definitely be rerouted at "the point of death." This is somewhat easier to finagle for us if the "afterlife" is actual material in canon, or at least a place that exists in the supplemental information (e.g., Valhalla that is established onscreen). However, we're willing to work with folks if the matter of afterlife isn't that clear in canon.

Ghosts, zombies, and other 'post-death' characters are certainly allowed too!
